"Very telling". It’s one of Cheryl Black’s favorite expressions and one you will undoubtedly hear if you get to know her at all. She’ll use it jokingly when she feels she probed and uncovered a deep insight into your personality. It’s also a great description of her because Cheryl Black is, in fact, a very telling person. She is a storyteller at her core.

Cheryl Black grew up in Maryland in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. After graduating from Howard University with a degree in sociology, she put her skills as a storyteller and her knowledge of human behavior to work. Cheryl started her career in Washington, D.C. in 1999 by helping decide which stories of the day should be covered for the local news at WTTG-TV. At the same, she got a taste of true crime as an associate producer for “America’s Most Wanted” on Fox Television.

After growing up around the center of politics, Cheryl delved into some political story telling. Cheryl went to work for Showtime as a field producer in the network’s political reality series “American Candidate.”

By the end of summer 2004, Cheryl found herself putting together one of the most popular reality shows in the country. Cheryl served as a field producer for the CBS hit “Big Brother.” Her work covered both the fifth and sixth seasons of the show.

Cheryl continued to prove her strength and versatility as a reality television producer with two very different assignments at the end of 2004. The first project was the CMT production called “Popularity Contest.” The second was “Sports Kids Moms & Dads” for Bravo. For the Bravo show, Cheryl chronicled the trials and tribulations of a competitive male figure skater.

In 2006, Cheryl went to work on the Lifetime production, “Face the Family” as a field producer. She soon followed that with “Split Ends,” the highest rated program on the Style Network. The show features hairdressers who swap salons from different parts of the country. Cheryl went back to “Split Ends” for another season in 2007.

Between the “Split Ends” productions, Cheryl worked on another CBS program. “Armed & Famous” took celebrities and put them in uniform as police officers in Muncie, Indiana. Cheryl worked with Erik Estrada, Latoya Jackson and Jack Osborne on this network reality show. And, there are many more very telling stories to be told.
